Toyota has revealed the FT86 ahead of Tokyo Motor Show starting this Friday. The new sports coupe will be on display at the Tokyo motor show in Japan and will go on sale by April next year. The GT86 is powered by a 2.0-litre boxer four-cylinder engine co-developed with Subaru and produces sufficient 200PS. The performance specs are not of a sports car but with light weight (1230kg) and rear wheel drive, this car will certainly be fun to drive – much in the same vein as the Mazda MX-5 or Honda S2000.
The GT86 has sharp, aggressive and sporty looks unlike most Toyotas, as the carmaker tries to revamp its bland image. The car will be competitively priced to attract youngsters, but actual cost will be revealed only next year, closer to the launch.
The sporty, performance driven and affordable GT86 inspired from the last rear-drive Corolla hatchback might just change Toyota’s image. An image change is just what the doctor ordered, since the spate of recalls in the US combined with the tsunami in Japan have combined to make Toyota lose the top spot in terms of sales figures worldwide.http://blog.toyota.co.uk/ft-86-concept-becomes-gt-86-reality-as-new-toyota-sports-car-is-unveiled
